Fine gold spot price converted by fineness. Indicative, no guarantee.
What drives the gold price?
Gold is priced worldwide on the London wholesale market and the futures markets of New York and Shanghai, in US dollars per troy ounce (31.1035 grams). What you see here is that market price converted to euros per gram of fine gold (999.9), and then to the usual jewellery finenesses.
Demand from central banks, investors and the jewellery industry, interest rates and the euro-dollar exchange rate together set the price. That is why the euro gold price can move even when the dollar price stands still.
Bid and ask
The market always has two prices. The bid is what buyers offer, the ask is what sellers want. Sell at the ask; buy back old gold at the bid. Read more in margin on precious metals.
From market price to store price
A 14 ct ring of 4.2 grams contains 4.2 × 0.585 = 2.46 grams of fine gold. That metal value is the base; your margin for design, craftsmanship, warranty and profit comes on top. GoudZilverKoers does this for every product, every minute. Try it in the calculator.
Frequently asked questions
Is this what I get for my gold?
No. This is the wholesale spot price. A jeweller or buyer applies a margin depending on fineness, quantity and whether it is a purchase or a sale.
Why is 14 carat marked 585?
Carat counts in 24 parts. 14 carat is 14/24 = 58.5% gold, which is why 14 ct jewellery carries the hallmark 585.
